Brian Boggs

In 1983 Brian Boggs began making a set of six chairs for his own family.  In the years that followed, Brian has created a workshop that is home to four skilled craftspeople and has delivered more than 2000 individually handcrafted chairs and tables.  His professional journey has included forays into tool building, machine design, environmentally sustainable forestry, teaching an lecturing, all of which  have been well documented in the woodworking press.  Even with all of these facets of Brian’s career his original intent has not changed to create fine chairs and tables that his won family will cherish and honor for generations.

“My efforts to understand early Appalachian chairmaking soon became a career focused on discovery.  This focus has led to numerous new designs not only in the chairs, but also in hand tools, benches, machines and process.  My goal from the start has been to learn everything the wood has to teach me.  These lessons help me design and build better chairs and better processes.  Thus my chairs and techniques are ever evolving, keeping alive an American tradition, as well as a commitment to excellence.”
