Timothy Clark
A graduate of Middlebury College in 1985 with a B.A. in Spanish Language and Studio Art, Timothy began making furniture professionally in 1986. His family has always been involved with wood. His father does construction as a hobby and his brother is an architect. He remembers his grandfather tinkering with furniture repair in his tiny shop on his great grandfathers workbench. Timothy uses that same bench today, as he builds case pieces, as well as Windsor chairs, which he designs to be comfortable, pleasant to look at, enjoyable to build, and only of solid wood.
“The building process is very enjoyable to me and handtools are an important part of that. Spoke-shaves and handplanes leave me ankle deep in shavings as I shape chair parts or plane a tabletop flat. Building cabinets satisfies engineering inklings while building chairs quenches the desire to work sculpturally.”
