Ted Blachly

Ted Blachly was introduced to woodworking and furniture making while studying Fine Arts at New England College. Upon graduation in 1973, he built and repaired furniture on a limited basis.  In the mid eighties he began the transition to full-time furniture making. Blachly works primarily on commission at his studio in Warner, and is on the faculty at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine.  He has also been an assistant to Terry Moore (1992) and continues to assist Jere Osgood part time (1993-present).  In 1995 he was an invited artist in The New Hampshire Furniture asters Association. Examples of Ted’s work have appeared in Architectural Digest, Art and Antiques, the New York gallery, Pritam & Eames as well as League of New Hampshire Craftsman Galleries and exhibits.

“I primarily work on one piece at a time so that all aspects of design and execution can be done thoughtfully and with close attention to detail. I continue to develop a design language for furniture that is calm, elegant and subtly sensuous. I feel the use of gently curved lines and surfaces, the warmth of exceptional woods, and ultimately a personal hand made approach brings about furniture that is a comfort to live with.”
